Description from a kind guest !

We had an amazing holiday at Maika’s apartment in August 2010. (My husband and I and 3 sons aged 21,19 and 14) We have stayed in many privately owned holiday properties in various countries and this one excelled in view of size, facilities etc and the pure thoughtfulness of the owner. As mentioned by a previous guest it was so nice to have basic food items available on arrival. Also not to have to worry about bringing beach towels etc. I think it wonderful to recycle toiletries etc and we were very happy to leave our unused suncreams etc rather that bin them! Apartment is just beautifully restored and we all appreciated the cds available(sons are all musicians!) especially Leonard Cohen – what bliss to sit in that attic space and chill to him!
Apartment is a perfect base for travelling to Rome and Naples. We did both by train. Previous renters have mentioned tobacconist etc for tickets and another that they found it difficult to find this shop. We just bought tickets from the guy at the station who was more that helpful – supplying us each day with a list of train times back to Fondi and also pointing out that our ticket to Rome included travel that day on buses/underground etc. Rome was stunning and easy to get around on the tube (we had been before but still impressed!). Naples was disappointing and to be honest a bit scarey. Maybe we just didn’t see the best parts, We had gone to Pompeii that day (not to be missed!!!) and only had a few hours in Naples.
Sperlonga is fabulous but if going by bus please stay on and don’t get off at first beach stop. Go to last stop and then walk down through the little winding streets to the sea and beaches. We did however find the private beach thing a bit confusing – ie we did try to pay for sunbeds etc but were unable to do so – not having any Italian, not sure why but it appeared that they had been mostly booked longterm? We just slummed it on the free bits- which was fine!
Egytian taxi driver (Maika will give you his number) was very obliging and only charged 10E from station to apartment on several occasions – after late night arrival back from day trips etc.Fondi itself was just so beautiful and it was lovely to be right in the heart of it. Restaurants etc good (we ate twice at the Pizza Guidea). Chicken guy who does the carry outs worth a try – does other take out foods too-all freshly prepared. (not the Pollo Dor in main square – always closed!) – the one left of yellow church along a little street. Bread in bakery downstairs from apartment also fab.
Hope all future visitors have a great experience here too! Don’t be put off by the steps – just think how old they much be and how they add to the whole ambience!
